Chopok is the most visited peak in the Nízke Tatry and from Tále it's 9 km away — you reach the Jasná southern side by car in 11 minutes. From there you choose: up by cable car in a few minutes, or on foot through Kosodrevina with about 850 metres of elevation gain. One base, three levels of effort — and the backpacks stay in the apartment.
Start with Chopok, because it shows you the whole plan. The cable car system on the Jasná side runs in summer too: you board at Krupová, and via Priehyba with a transfer at Kosodrevina you get almost to the top and enjoy the rest on foot. Anyone who wants to earn the view with their legs goes up from Srdiečko through Kosodrevina — within three hours you're on the ridge with about 850 metres of elevation gain. The trick is to set off early: in the morning the ridge is yours, in the afternoon the crowds and the clouds move in.
For the fitter, the reward is Ďumbier — the highest peak of the Nízke Tatry, over 2,040 metres. The most direct southern ascent leads from the Trangoška car park in the valley above Mýto pod Ďumbierom (Mýto itself is 3 km and five minutes by car from Lúčnica) via Chata M. R. Štefánika to the summit. From the chalet through Krúpovo sedlo it's just a good hour or so. No asphalt, a gentle climb, and at the end the highest point of the whole range beneath your feet. And if you have an extra day and strength in your calves, there's a marked circular ridge route Srdiečko – Chopok – Ďumbier that links both peaks into one big day.
Not every day has to hurt. With kids, save the interactive educational trail right in Tále — it's about a kilometre long, starts at the turnoff into the resort, and leads to the recreation area by the Partizán hotel. QR codes about animals, a wooden dendrophone that sounds like a forest, and a life-size bear for a photo. A few steps further is the Tále reservoir for a refreshing dip, minigolf, and the Tarzánia rope park. When it's hot, head to the Krpáčovo reservoir in the neighbouring valley — a gentle grassy entry and a boat rental make it an ideal spot for a family afternoon.
You don't have to carry the bike on the roof — the apartment has a bike room where you stow it safely in the evening and in the morning just hop on and go. Routes head out straight from the Bystrianska dolina: along the stream to the Tále recreation area, or on the marked loop Bystrá – Diel – Pohansko – Mýto pod Ďumbierom. Anyone who likes it downhill and wild can take a mountain bike up by cable car to the bike park below Chopok in Jasná — the same southern side, the same 9 km. One apartment, and mountains ranging from a family stroll to a black downhill trail within a single drive.
