Start with easy paved and compacted paths. The promenade around Štrbské pleso is an ideal first trail – a flat surface, benches, cafés and a stunning view of the peaks. Just as comfortable is the route to Popradské pleso along a wide forest road, where a stroller is no problem, although the final stretch climbs slightly uphill.
When choosing a stroller, think about the terrain. A sports stroller with larger inflatable wheels and good suspension works best; classic city strollers with small wheels struggle on gravel. Don't forget a rain cover, a sun shade and a thin blanket – mountain weather changes quickly, even in summer.
Transport in the Tatras is surprisingly convenient. The Tatra Electric Railway (TEŽ) connects the main resorts and its carriages have low-floor platforms suitable for a stroller. Thanks to the trains and the rack railway to Štrbské pleso, you can take trips without a car and avoid hunting for parking in high season.
Plan the day around your baby's rhythm. Set off early in the morning when the trails are emptier and the warmth is more pleasant, and take a longer break around midday. Most mountain huts and snack bars by the lakes have space to change a nappy or warm up food, plus shade for breastfeeding.
